LINK nky reported on August 31, 2026 that Mayor Jessica Fette signed a 26,600 dollar agreement with Flock Safety in July 2024, the same day a council vote planned for July 2, 2024 was removed from the agenda. MeetNKY, the regional tourism bureau, sponsored 25,000 dollars over 2 years, the city was to add 1,000 dollars in year 2, and Flock supplied a fifth camera free as a trial. Five devices were installed, 4 on Holly Lane and 1 on Commonwealth Avenue. The contract expired in July 2026 and the cameras were removed after Police Chief Mike Lemming said the department weighed the pros and cons and chose not to renew. City Attorney Jack Gatlin said council approval was not needed when no city money was spent, and the council never voted on starting or ending the program.
