Mayor John D. Link posted a memo on the city website dated September 1, 2026 announcing that Edgewood would temporarily pause its Flock Safety cameras. The memo says the system will remain inactive while the city reviews policies, procedures and safeguards. Edgewood runs 4 dual purpose units that read license plates and also capture video, so no contract amount is recorded here because any published figure would cover the video function as well as the plate readers. Link wrote that the pause is not a decision to abandon the technology or to reduce support for the police department. The city invited residents to send comments to an official address ahead of the council meeting. The council is set to take the matter up on October 5, 2026 and decide whether the system comes back. The pause followed resident questions about data collection, retention and possible misuse.
