Who approved this?
Approved 3-0 by Wellsville City Council on October 25, 2023.
The Wellsville City Council approved the Flock license reader 3 to 0 on October 25, 2023. Council member Scott Hutchinson moved and Cory Cunningham seconded, with Luke Henry the third member present. The minutes put the system at 3,100 dollars and place it on a pole at Berts. Chief Danny Hackler first presented Flock on September 13, 2023 at 3,000 dollars per camera plus a 150 dollar one time install, with options of 2 years at 3,000 dollars or 1 year at 3,150 dollars, and the council tabled it that night by consensus with no vote. The city put 2 cameras into service starting in October 2023, one on First Street west of Ash Street and one at 10th and Main after a move from Kansas Highway 33. On August 20, 2026 Hackler announced he was terminating every agreement between the department and Flock Safety, saying the cameras would be covered and staff authorization removed, and tying the decision to residents who raised privacy concerns. That termination was a police chief decision rather than a council vote, so it stays out of the roll call.
