The Marshall County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 on August 17, 2026 to end automatic renewal of the county's Flock Safety contract and move to annual terms. The commissioners are Stan Klotz, the board president, Jesse Bohannon and Adam Faulstich. The current contract runs to September 13, 2027, and the county must give notice by mid-July 2027 to switch to annual terms. GIANT fm reported the agreement began as a 24-month term signed September 14, 2021 and was renewed for a further 24 months. An audit covering June 15 to July 15, 2026 found the county prosecutor, Plymouth police and Bremen police made 407 combined searches of reader data, while Commissioner Faulstich said out-of-state agencies queried Bremen's system roughly 540,000 times in that month, almost 10 times a minute. About half the audited queries carried no case number, and Commissioner Bohannon said he does not philosophically agree with collecting data on people before there is reasonable suspicion of a crime. County Attorney Sean Surrisi and Prosecutor Nelson Chipman took part in the discussion, and renegotiation is planned for 2027 with the incoming prosecutor and sheriff. None of the 3 reports gives a contract amount or camera count for the county.
This contract expires September 13, 2027
334 days until the community decides.
Not yet in the sources: the contract amount and the camera count. Board of Commissioners holds the approval file, and the records request guide gives the wording to ask for it. If you already hold the document, send it in.
