WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times reported on September 17, 2026 that Western Illinois University is one of five Illinois public universities using Flock cameras, based on public records requests, and that the five schools together spent more than 450,000 dollars on Flock services since 2021. The report says Western Illinois students started petitions asking administrators to end the relationship with the company. It does not break out a camera count, a dollar figure, contract dates or a retention period for Western Illinois. The university crime awareness page names its force as the Office of Public Safety and says 25 armed officers staff it.
