Approved by Des Plaines City Council.
The Des Plaines City Council agreed in February 2023 to buy 10 cameras from Flock Group of Atlanta for 61,300 dollars, set up as a 2 year test that could run longer. Police Chief David Anderson told aldermen the cameras would support investigations of burglaries, robberies and catalytic converter thefts, and would not be used for speed or traffic enforcement. The Daily Herald reported on February 22, 2023 that no alderman objected and the council agreed to the purchase; it named no individual votes. The chief said images are purged after 30 days and shared with police departments in other communities on the network. Camera locations on the main thoroughfares had not been settled when the council acted. An August 7, 2026 NBC Chicago report listed Des Plaines among the suburbs using Flock cameras. The exact meeting date and the ordinance number are not documented in the sources.
