The Blaine County Sheriff's Office runs 16 Flock automated license plate reader cameras under a 2 year agreement that began in March 2025 and expires in March 2027. East Idaho News reported the cost at about 60,000 dollars a year, paid from civil forfeiture funds held outside the county's annual budget, and that former Sheriff Steve Harkins signed off on the program in September 2024. On September 21, 2026 Sheriff Morgan Ballis ordered the removal of the camera at U.S. Highway 20 and Greenfield Way in Carey and said the agreement will not renew automatically when it ends in March 2027. Ballis said the Carey camera went up without consulting city leaders or residents because it sits on Idaho Transportation Department property, which kept the siting out of local approval discussions. No county commission resolution, contract total for the full term or recorded vote appears in the reporting read here.
