Winter Springs police announced on the morning of September 1, 2026 that they were suspending use of their Flock cameras. The step came hours after the Florida Department of Transportation revoked every state road plate reader permit in a memorandum signed on August 31, 2026 by chief operating officer Will Watts. Government Technology recorded Winter Springs as the fourth Seminole County jurisdiction to act, after the county sheriff office, Altamonte Springs and Oviedo. The Seminole County Sheriff's Office had roughly 105 cameras across the county, and Oviedo dropped all 8 of its cameras rather than renew a lease. Winter Springs released no camera count or dollar figure with its announcement. No contract amount, term or city commission approval record for the Winter Springs agreement appears in any document reviewed.
