Wilton Manors city commissioners voted 4 to 0 on May 28, 2024 to put 24 license plate readers at 12 locations around the city, with Mayor Newton absent, and OutSFL reported that the data would be processed by Flock Safety software. The Broward County Board of County Commissioners then adopted a budget resolution on September 5, 2024 moving $83,930 inside the Law Enforcement Trust Fund to the Broward Sheriff's Office to buy the readers for the Wilton Manors Police Department, county file 24-1164. The county resolution calls the equipment Automated License Plate Readers and names no vendor. On April 1, 2025 the county commission approved a separate license agreement letting the city mount a reader on county land at the southeast corner of Wilton Manors Drive and NE 19th Street, county file 25-368. Law Enforcement Trust Fund money comes from seizures under the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act.
