St. Cloud police said they would discontinue use of the automated license plate reader network effective immediately after the Florida Department of Transportation revoked state road permits on August 31, 2026. The Osceola News Gazette counted 36 plate readers in St. Cloud, against 21 in neighboring Kissimmee and more than 100 across the county. The department said it valued the technology but would wait for state guidelines before deciding anything further. Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon shut down the county network the same week and said the county cannot become a police state searching for its own residents. Kissimmee police said only that the city would meet the state requirements inside the deadline. No contract amount, term or council approval record for the St. Cloud agreement appears in any document reviewed. This entry concerns St. Cloud in Osceola County, Florida, not the city of the same name in Minnesota.
