The Osceola News Gazette identified 21 automated license plate readers operating in Kissimmee as the Florida Department of Transportation order took effect. The department revoked every state road plate reader permit on August 31, 2026 and set a 30 day deadline for removal. Kissimmee police said the city would ensure compliance with those requirements inside the required timeline. The department did not announce a broader suspension of the kind neighboring St. Cloud declared, and no statement terminating the underlying agreement has been published. Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon deactivated more than 100 county cameras during the same week. No contract amount, term or city commission approval record for the Kissimmee agreement appears in any document reviewed. A records request to the city clerk is the route that would surface the approval file.
