Sheriff Mac McNeill announced on August 31, 2026 that the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office would stop using Flock license plate reader cameras. Bolts reported that the office had budgeted for the cameras since at least 2023, at 25,000 dollars in 2023-24, 42,947 dollars in 2024-25 and 50,000 dollars in 2025-26, with 55,000 dollars proposed for 2026-27. County commissioners approved those budgets, but no separate vote on the Flock agreement is on record. McNeill said he made the decision after listening to public feedback from both supporters and opponents. Governor Ron DeSantis ordered Flock cameras removed from state roads the same day. The report gives no camera count from the sheriff's office itself and no contract term.
