The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has a Flock contract that runs through December 2028, WCTV reported on September 1, 2026. That day Sheriff AJ Smith said deputies found the cameras still reading license plates, so they covered them with pink bags and unplugged them. Smith told WFSU the same day that Flock and any other plate readers in the county are going away and that the office had turned off its access. On September 18, 2026, WCTV reported that Smith sought to use a 30-day convenience clause to leave the contract, that he said Flock answered with a new contract, and that he does not intend to pay when 2027 arrives. Flock said it would not make premature changes to the contract. No document found names the approving body, the approval date, the contract amount, the camera count or the funding source.
