The Dixie County Sheriff's Office installed Flock Safety cameras, bought with a law enforcement grant, at select locations across the county, WCJB reported on November 5, 2025. WCJB said the cameras read license plates automatically and can help find missing people or vehicles of interest. After Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered plate reader cameras off state roadways within 30 days, WCJB reported on September 1, 2026 that the office will remove all license plate readers on state roads. The sheriff also suspended use of all other Flock cameras while the matter is reviewed. No document found names the grant, the cost, the camera count, the approving body or the approval date.
Use suspended
Camera use is suspended. The contract itself has not been reported terminated.
