Clermont police suspended their automated license plate reader program on September 1, 2026, the day after the Florida Department of Transportation revoked state road permits statewide. Chief John Graczyk said effective law enforcement depends on public trust and strong partnerships with the community. The department pointed to privacy concerns, unanswered questions about how long data is held and the absence of a clear regulatory framework. The Lake County Commission voted 5 to 0 the same day to revoke authorization for plate readers in county rights of way, which removed the other legal footing available to city cameras. Groveland police suspended their 2 cameras on State Road 50 on the same day. No contract amount, camera count, term or city council approval record for the Clermont agreement appears in any document reviewed.
Use suspended
