West Hartford police began running Flock Safety license plate reader cameras in 2022. The town operated 34 of the cameras as of August 2026 and paid roughly 64,000 dollars a year to run the program. Money for the cameras came from the town allocation under the American Rescue Plan Act. The Town Council Public Safety Committee took an overview of the license plate reader program at its meeting on August 4, 2026, with the police chief, department staff and a representative of Flock presenting. The committee changed no policy that morning. Minutes of that meeting, adopted in the September 1, 2026 packet, record only that the presentation took place. No West Hartford document located so far names the body that authorized the original purchase, states a term length or sets an end date. The Public Safety Committee meets again on October 6, 2026.
