The Darien Times reported in March 2023 that the Darien Police Commission opened discussion of Flock Safety license plate readers in late February 2023 and took a company presentation on March 9, 2023. Flock quoted 3,000 dollars a year for each stationary camera and 3,500 dollars for each flex camera, plus installation fees of 350 to 700 dollars on stationary units, on an annual lease. Commissioner Brent Hayes raised the idea, Sergeant Dan Skoumbros briefed the commission, and Police Chief Donald Anderson and First Selectman Monica McNally weighed in, with McNally asking whether pedestrians or drivers would be identified on camera. Patch reported on March 24, 2023 that Anderson tied the request to vehicle thefts, which reached 34 in Darien during 2022. WFSB reported on May 28, 2026 that Darien runs 13 cameras, 12 fixed and 1 portable, that larceny, assisting other agencies and pursuit were the most common search reasons between July and December 2025, and that no federal agency has access. Retention runs 30 days unless a plate is flagged for an active investigation. No approval vote, vote tally, contract document, total dollar amount or funding line was found, so no amount or approval date is given.
