The Avon Police Department operates 4 fixed Flock Safety automated license plate reader cameras, according to the ALPR Citizens Guide the department publishes on the town website. The guide places those cameras along major corridors used to enter neighborhoods. Plate reads that generate no hit are deleted after 21 days, and longer retention is allowed only when a record is flagged as evidence in an ongoing criminal prosecution. The guide points to Public Act 26-14, signed by Governor Lamont on May 4, 2026, which bars federal agency access and limits out of state sharing to law enforcement in New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Starting October 1, 2026, an outside agency must file a signed data sharing attestation and supply a case number and the details of a specific ongoing case. The department states that it audits use and that every search is logged with officer credentials, a case number and a stated reason for access. No Avon town council vote, purchase price or term length appears in any town document located. WFSB I-Team reporting dated May 28, 2026 lists Avon among Connecticut towns running Flock cameras.
