Fort Collins City Council voted 6 to 1 in June 2026 to end the city's Flock Safety contract, ordered data collection to stop immediately and directed that all 15 city owned cameras be removed. Councilmember Melanie Potyondy voted to end the program and called it a big tradeoff for Fort Collins Police Services. The initial agreement with Flock Group, Inc. ran two years at $96,000, with installation charges of $150 to $1,250 per camera, relocations up to $2,000 and replacements at $800. The program started in April 2025 with 10 cameras, and the department had planned to add four more. Police Chief Jeff Swoboda said losing the system could delay crime response times and affect investigations. The contract allowed the city to exit without penalty if future budgets did not appropriate funds, and Flock deleted footage on a rolling 30 day basis unless it was archived. None of the sources name the other 6 council members or record how the original contract was approved.
