Rejected
Who approved this?
Voted down by City Council.
Lakewood City Council rejected a Flock pilot extension at its adjourned regular meeting of March 24, 2026. Staff had recommended a 12-month project covering 59 license plate readers and 10 video cameras at $332,600 including installation and five-year reader retention, with a 12-month renewal at $289,150, and had recommended declining the audio detection component. Council Member Rogers moved to extend the pilot a year and form an advisory committee with two appointees per member, seconded by Council Member Croft; the motion failed with Croft and Rogers in favor and Wood, Arellano and Mayor Chase against. A second motion by Council Member Arellano to look at other reader vendors died for lack of a second. The minutes record a five-year retention period for reader data and state that there were no agreements with any agencies to share Lakewood's data. The pilot had run more than seven months when the council voted, and the minutes do not say whether it continued or stopped afterward. The city's own council recap describes the same action as a 3-2 vote not to move forward, while the minutes record it as a failed motion with 2 ayes and 3 nays; the $332,600 figure was proposed, not approved.
