Renewal upcoming
Who approved this?
Approved by Chandler City Council.
Chandler's Flock program began as a 2024 pilot combining gunshot detection and plate readers in and around the Galveston neighborhood, aimed at repeat firearm crimes. The city dropped the gunshot detection piece in 2025 after community pushback. The city is contracted for up to 40 license plate readers. In February 2026 the council approved relocating readers within the Galveston neighborhood; the cameras came down in May 2026 in response to residents' privacy concerns and went back up near Arizona Avenue and McQueen Road and near Chandler Boulevard and Ray Road. Residents who noticed the reinstallation in June asked whether the city had added cameras without a vote, and the city said these were the February relocations rather than new sites. As of mid-June 2026 the council was weighing whether to end the Flock contract, with a decision expected in mid-July.
