Cave Creek town staff canceled the Flock Safety contract on August 26, 2026, effective immediately, and crews removed every remaining camera for safekeeping. Staff moved the decision up after someone took a camera near 32nd Street and Carefree Highway. Officials said they concluded they could not protect resident data once it left town limits, because the Flock network lets police agencies across the country search what local cameras collect. They said local privacy rules cannot govern a system built for data sharing. No council vote preceded the cancellation, and the town manager and town attorney were set to explain the decision at the September 1, 2026 council meeting rather than at a debate first planned for September 15, 2026. KTAR counted Cave Creek as at least the 9th Arizona city or town to drop or restrict Flock. No camera count or contract amount appears in the coverage reviewed.
