The Morgan County Sheriff's Office runs 7 Flock Safety cameras and publishes an automated license plate reader page naming Flock as the vendor. Inside Climate News reported on August 29, 2026 that those 7 cameras logged data on more than 100,000 vehicles in a 30 day window. Truthout reported on August 31, 2026 that users from over 1,000 law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, reached that data in the same period. The sheriff's page states the data is used only for authorized law enforcement purposes under Alabama law and department policy, and it lists no retention period. No Morgan County Commission vote, contract amount, term length or funding source appears in any record located. Alabama Power has sold Flock subscriptions to more than 80 municipalities statewide at about $250 per camera each month, and no document ties Morgan County to that arrangement.
