Who approved this?

Approved by Gadsden City Council.

The Gadsden Police Department signed an agreement with Alabama Power's Public Safety Division for 15 Flock cameras, WBRC reported in April 2024. ABC 33/40 reported on April 17, 2024 that Gadsden City Council members approved an ordinance that week to operate the cameras. The agreement runs 60 months, with the city paying about $5,000 a month to lease equipment that Alabama Power owns and whose data the utility cannot access. ABC 33/40 counted a 360-degree dome camera with the 15 Flock cameras, while WBRC counted 3 video cameras. No document found gives the exact vote date, the vote tally, a contract total or the fund that pays the lease. No later report of a renewal, pause or ending was found.
